Understanding what topics are included is crucial for effective preparation.

Stream-wise coverage:

How to use the syllabus smartly:

  • Download the full PDF for your stream/subject and highlight units you feel weak in.

  • Create a week-wise plan to cover all topics at least once before revision.

  • Use previous years’ question papers (see next section) to identify high-weight topics.

  • Keep checking for any updates or corrigenda from the board.

3. Exam Pattern & Question Paper Structure

Knowing the format helps you strategise your preparation, time-management and revise smartly.

Key features of the pattern for HSC 2026:

  • Each theory paper is typically of 3 hours duration and 100 marks. Careers360 Schools+1

  • The question paper is divided into major parts — for many subjects it is Part A + Part B, each worth 50 marks. Careers360 Schools+1

  • There is increasing weightage of objective (MCQ) questions and comparatively reduced descriptive questions. For example: objective weight increased from ~20 % to ~30 % in some subjects. Careers360 Schools+1

Example subject‐wise breakdown (for Maths) – as per one source:

Section No. of Questions Marks per Question Total Marks
A – MCQ 15 1 mark 15
B – Short Answer 15 1 mark 15
C – (2-mark) 10 2 marks 20
D – (3-mark) 10 3 marks 30
E – (5-mark) 2 5 marks 20
Total 100

Passing criteria:

  • Usually, a student needs to score minimum 33% in each subject to pass. Shiksha+1

  • Practical/internal assessment marks apply in subjects like Science.

What this means for you:

  • Since more MCQs are coming, your quick recall and accuracy matter.

  • Longer answer questions still exist — don’t neglect rote-learning some parts.

  • Time management becomes important: practise papers in 3-hour blocks, including MCQs + descriptive parts.

  • Focus on high-weight segments first during revision.
